William M. Facteau - President & CEO
Mr. Facteau joined Acclarent, Inc., in November 2004. He brings over 13 years of medical device experience, including 11 years in management. Prior to joining AcclarentTM, Mr. Facteau was at Abbott Vascular Devices (AVD) where he held a number of sales, marketing, and general management positions. In his most recent assignment at Abbott, he served as the General Manager for Endovascular Technologies. During his tenure as General Manager, Mr. Facteau took the business from infancy and grew it into a $32 million dollar business unit within 2 years.

Mr. Facteau joined Abbott Laboratories via the acquisition of Perclose, Inc., a vessel closure company where he was the Eastern Area Sales Director. Prior to joining Perclose, he worked at U.S. Surgical for 5 years. Mr. Facteau is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and has completed multiple sales, marketing, and management courses throughout his career.

George Harter - Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Harter brings over 20 years of financial management experience to Acclarent, most recently as CFO for Velocimed - a twin cities based interventional cardiology company commercializing innovative PFO closure, embolic protection, and guidewire control technologies (recently sold to St Jude Medical). Prior to joining Velocimed, Mr. Harter served as CFO for Novare Surgical Systems - an innovator of advanced surgical technologies targeting remote access, CABG, and atraumatic occlusion (founded by Dr. Thomas Fogarty). Earlier management responsibilities include Controllership positions within Boston Scientific's EP Technologies and CardioVascular Imaging Systems divisions, as well as a number of senior financial management positions within TRW's advanced technology businesses and corporate treasury functions. Mr. Harter holds a BA in Economics from UCLA and an MBA in Finance from Case Western Reserve University.

 

Greg Garfield - Chief Operating Officer & General Counsel
Mr. Garfield joined Acclarent in October 2006. Mr. Garfield was previously Vice President, New Business Development with Boston Scientific ’s Cardiovascular Group. Prior to that, he spent 11 years in a variety of different roles within Guidant Corporation, including General Counsel of the Cardiac Surgery Group, Compass (Guidant’s corporate investment group), and Guidant’s affiliate in Japan. Prior to joining Guidant, Mr. Garfield spent a number of years in private practice representing start-up companies from Pillsbury Winthrop’s Menlo Park office. He holds a BS degree in Agricultural Business Management from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.


Mark Bishop - Vice President, Quality
Mr. Bishop joined Acclarent in February 2005. He brings over 18 years of industry experience with the past 14 years in medical devices. Prior to joining Acclarent, Mr. Bishop was with Abbott Vascular Devices (AVD) where he served as Director of Engineering from 2000 to 2005 with responsibilities in engineering, quality, operations, and manufacturing. Mr. Bishop joined Abbott Vascular Devices via the acquisition of Perclose Inc. Mr. Bishop held increasing levels of management responsibilities at Perclose, leading efforts in manufacturing engineering from very early stage prototype development to production volumes exceeding 600 thousand units per year. Mr. Bishop began his medical device career in 1992 working as a design engineer with Devices for Vascular Intervention (DVI) which was successfully acquired by Eli Lilly & Co. and subsequently merged into Guidant. He has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology from California Polytechnic Institute, San Luis Obispo.


John Y. Chang - Vice President, Research & Development
Mr. Chang co-founded Acclarent during his tenure at the medical device incubator ExploraMed II. Mr. Chang has over 12 years experience in the medical device industry in the fields of interventional cardiology, interventional radiology, vascular surgery, and general surgery.

Previously, Mr. Chang was a Program Manager at TransVascular, Inc., where he developed novel technologies to enable catheter-based percutaneous bypass procedures and drug delivery in both the coronary and peripheral vasculature. He has also held positions at General Surgical Innovations (Tyco) and Guidant (Devices for Vascular Intervention). Mr. Chang holds an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and a B.S. in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University.


André Cheng, MD, PhD – Vice President, Medical Affairs & Reimbursement
Dr. Cheng brings over 20 years of healthcare experience, including his medical training at Johns Hopkins. Prior to joining Acclarent, Dr. Cheng was with The Advisory Board Company, where he served as Managing Partner of the medical device consulting division and Executive Director of the clinical research division. Dr. Cheng is recognized as one of the leading thinkers on the future of health care and the impact of new technologies, having launched the Innovations Center, a strategic forecasting program, and Technology Insights, an on-demand technology assessment service, for over 2,600 hospitals and health systems.

Dr. Cheng also spent a decade researching the economics of cochlear implantation and another decade in medical genetics and the Human Genome Project. He has authored over 100 Advisory Board publications on healthcare business strategy, published nearly 20 articles in peer-reviewed journals including JAMA, and served as an editor and reviewer for several leading medical journals. Dr. Cheng received his AB in biochemistry from Harvard College, and his medical degree, ENT residency training, and graduate degree in health economics from Johns Hopkins University.


Su-Mien Chong - Vice President, Clinical & Regulatory
Ms. Chong joined Acclarent in February 2005. She had been the Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs at AccessClosure, Inc., a start-up focused on innovative vessel closure technology. Prior to that, Ms. Chong was the Medical Affairs Director at Perclose, where she was responsible for executing worldwide clinical and regulatory strategies to allow for rapid commercialization of vessel closure, coronary and peripheral products.

Ms. Chong started her career as a researcher in the in vitro diagnostic industry, transitioned to the pharmaceutical company Syntex, and later held positions at several medical device start-up companies. She holds a B.S. in Microbiology from the University of California, Davis, and an M.B.A. from Santa Clara University.

 

Patrick W. Fabian - Vice President, US Sales & Training
Mr. Fabian has over 16 years experience in the medical device industry. In January 2007 he was appointed Senior Vice President at Accellent, Inc. responsible for sales and marketing of a $350 million dollar business. In 2006 Mr. Fabian held the position of Executive Vice President and General Manager for Accellent's Cardiology division as well as Vice President Sales 2004 - 2005. Prior to joining Accellent, Mr. Fabian was Director of Sales for Smith & Nephew Endoscopy. From 1994 to 2001, Mr. Fabian held various management positions with Tyco, United States Surgical, including Area Director of the Auto Suture business. From 1991 to 1994, Mr. Fabian served as a Territory Manager for Pfizer, Inc.

Mr. Fabian has a B.A. in Business Administration from The University of St. Thomas (1991).

 

Karen M. Long - Vice President, Marketing
Ms. Long brings to Acclarent, professional experience spanning more than 20 years in the healthcare industry. Most recently, she served as Director of Strategic Marketing for Lifescan, a division of Johnson & Johnson.  At Lifescan, she was responsible for developing the world wide strategic plan and portfolio for new products and services in the diabetes management space. Prior to her role in strategic marketing, Ms. Long spent 4 years in New Product Development focused on delivering transformational products in insulin delivery.  She has also held senior-level positions at various diagnostic and device companies including ChemTrak and Inverness Medical Technologies (acquired by Johnson & Johnson).

 

In addition to her medical device experience, Ms. Long brings deep clinical experience to Acclarent. Ms. Long is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with years of direct patient experience at Stanford Medical Center, Lucille Packard Children’s Center and San Jose Medical Center. She also was a course instructor for 10 years at Stanford University in the Center for Education in Family and Community Medicine.  She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from San Diego State University and completed her fellowship training at the VAMC in La Jolla, California.


Robert N. Wood, Jr. - Vice President, Strategic Planning
Mr. Wood joined Acclarent, Inc. from Novoste Corporation, a medical device company specializing in vascular brachytherapy for the interventional cardiology market. At Novoste, he served as Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing from 2000 to 2005. In the first year of leading the Novoste Sales Organization, revenues increased from $6 million to approximately $70 million. Prior to Novoste, he served as Eastern Regional Sales Manager for Perclose from the start of their U.S. commercial launch in 1997 through their over $683 million acquisition by Abbott Laboratories in 2000. From 1987 to 1997, Mr. Wood was employed by Cordis Corporation (now a Johnson and Johnson company), where he held various senior sales management positions. Most recently as National Sales Manager for Cordis' Endovascular Systems Division, specializing in peripheral vascular and neuro-interventional technologies. He began his career in the medical device business as a sales representative for Medrad, Inc. in 1983.


James R. Zuegel - Vice President, Operations
Mr. Zuegel has worked for 21 years in healthcare-related industries, including Medical Devices, Biomaterials, and Biotechnology. Mr. Zuegel graduated from Cornell University with B.S. / M.Eng. degrees in chemical / biochemical engineering. He began his career in biotech process R&D at SRI International and made the move into startup medical device companies by joining Vitaphore, a company focused on the development and manufacture of collagen-based medical devices. Subsequently, Mr. Zuegel held positions of increasing responsibility in product development and manufacturing operations at Origin MedSystems, Gynecare, and IsoStent; companies that commercialized products in the areas of general and laparoscopic surgery, women's healthcare, and cardiovascular stents and radiation therapy, respectively. After a brief period as a medical device consultant, Mr. Zuegel served as VP of Operations at Atrionix and Cardica. Origin MedSystems was acquired by Eli Lilly and successfully merged into Guidant Corporation via an IPO. Gynecare, IsoStent, and Atrionix were all successfully acquired by Johnson & Johnson.
